A date with "Future Jim"

It's a concept with which I admonish my children, and the lesson is not lost on me: there are future versions of us, waiting to keep a rendezvous with us at some far off time and place. That person will be who and what we make them: fatter or slimmer, wiser (or not), richer or poorer, more or less accomplished, well-loved or lonely (or both), satisfied or wanting.

We build these future models in the manner of all great works -- a bit at a time, with sustained effort (or neglect), and the patience that only time truly owns. Nobody becomes fat or fit in a day; no credible skill is attained overnight; real love and success are the byproducts of sustained intention and desire.

Contemporary Jim, I'm glad to say, is in many ways the superior of Past Jim. It gives me great hope for Future Jim -- I'd like him to be someone I'd like you to meet. Won't you please be sure that future you is the same?
